NA1GB "The Green Bean" Does Field Day 2010

 

The Green Bean once again provided the radio platform for Field Day 2010, as sponsored by the ARRL and operated by K1UR and K1NR. In our previous five years we had operated Field Day in all the New England states except for Connecticut, so for 2010 a suitable site in that state was sought. Shore locations are ideal and Connecticut has plenty of shore so the search was on. A likely spot in Stonington was found along with several alternatives but the first choice at the tip of a piece of land in Stonington by the old light house proved ideal.

We arrived a few hours before the 2 pm start and toured the lighthouse museum and climbed to the top of the tower that provided a nice view. We couldn't operate from there though so the truck was prepared and we were on the air right at the start.

Weather proved ideal and band conditions were good too. We operated all bands from 160 meters to 6 and made contacts on both phone and CW on all bands, ultimately setting a personal record.
